*Read the Scholastic News and make a claim. Do you think cities should ban plastic bags? Use specific evidence from the article while completing this writing.

  2. It states in the article that Los Angeles CA became the largest city in the country to ban plastic bags. Since March 2013 stores in Austin haven't been allowed to give out disposable plastic bags at the check out. Shoppers are forced to use their own bags. The Dump has 3.3 Million tons of plastic bags that would fill 300,000 garbage trucks!! 9 out of 10 people today are reusing plastic bags, but that is not enough. I think Plastic bags should not be banned because if we all use paper bags then there will be no more trees! Which also means less oxygen. We need to start using fabric bags along with cooling bags. Stores should offer a discount for people who use fabric bags.

      Great point. You are definitely right about the paper bags. It almost seems that it's a lose-lose situation. Plastic bags hurt wildlife, while paper bags may eventually hurt nature, as well. That is, unless we start only using recyclable bags. Maybe that's what everyone needs to strive to do in the next years.
